Ted Wu
Vice President, Design, Hot Wheels
Ted Wu serves as Mattel’s Vice President of Design for Hot Wheels, a position he has held since 2015. In this role, Ted is responsible for all aspects of design for the nearly billion-dollar Hot Wheels global brand, including product design, UX design, and package design.
Before transitioning to his current position, Ted was Director of Global Marketing for Hot Wheels, where he oversaw the Tracks & Playset and Advanced Play business.
Ted started his career at Mattel in 2003 as an associate producer, a position that lead him to create and develop animated content for Mattel’s core and licensed brands, including Hot Wheels, Barbie, Masters of the Universe and Max Steel. In 2006, Ted was promoted to Associate Marketing Manager, on Mattel’s licensed boys business, where he worked on action figures with best-in-class partners like Warner Bros., DC and more.
Subsequent to this role, he became a Marketing Manager for Mattel’s European subsidiaries. In this capacity, Ted formulated and implemented brand strategies across the Boys, Girls and Games portfolios in the region. He was elevated to Senior Marketing Manager, Global Marketing, in August 2010, and a year later, was named Director, Global Marketing, Licensed Entertainment, Mattel, where Ted served as a marketing director for Mattel’s top licensed businesses, including Disney•Pixar Cars, Disney Planes, Disney•Pixar Toy Story and Dreamworks Animation’s DinoTrux. He helped his team generated $2 billion in global retail sales during this time.
Ted achieved a dual degree in both Business Economics and Visual Arts from Brown University. He also attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied animation and illustration.
